Canadian cybercriminal sentenced to one year in prison for NFT theft

Internet reports that the U.S. Federal Court for the Eastern District of Virginia recently ruled a major NFT theft case. Cameron Albert Redman, a 22-year-old man from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, was sentenced to one year in prison for conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud and conspiracy to commit aggravated identity theft. Court documents show that in May 2022, Redman and his associates illegally accessed the social media accounts of multiple digital artists to induce users to visit fake websites to authorize NFT transactions, but actually stole the victims 'cryptocurrency and NFT assets. The criminal gang caused losses to more than 200 victims in a few days and made illegal profits of US$794,000. Redman was arrested in Portugal in March 2025 and extradited to the United States. The case was jointly investigated by the Washington branch of the FBI and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Cybercrime Investigation Team.
