Anchorage CEO: Reports that the company is under investigation by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are "nonsense"

On May 15, Nathan McCauley, CEO of crypto bank Anchorage Digital, refuted reports that the company was under investigation by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) at the Consensus 2025 conference in Toronto, calling the reports "pure nonsense." Previously, Barron's Weekly reported that DHS's anti-money laundering working group was contacting former employees of the company to understand its business operations. McCauley said the company had checked through lawyers to confirm that there was no investigation. Anchorage Digital is known for its strict compliance and just obtained a BitLicense license from the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) in December last year, one of the most difficult regulatory licenses in the crypto industry to obtain.
