Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) is reportedly set to introduce an extended-range version of its P7+ mid-to-large sedan, marking a robust new product cycle for its extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) lineup.

The extended-range P7+ will be launched next year, featuring a battery supporting 5C charging rate with an expected battery range of 400 kilometers, local media outlet Cailian reported today, citing sources.

The report noted that Xpeng chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said earlier this week at the IAA Mobility auto show in Munich, Germany, that all upcoming models will offer both pure-electric and extended-range powertrains and will be launched globally.

On September 10, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) regulatory catalog revealed Xpeng's filing for an EREV variant of its G7 SUV (sport utility vehicle). This marks the company's second EREV model to enter the regulatory catalog, following its X9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) last month.

The G7, launched just this July, is Xpeng's first model equipped with its in-house developed Turing AI chip for smart driving, boasting up to 2,250 TOPS of computing power.

Its BEV variant starts at RMB 195,800 ($27,490) and offers a CLTC range of 602 to 702 kilometers.

Founded in 2014, Xpeng initially offered only battery electric vehicles (BEVs), like most of its domestic peers.

However, as EREVs gained popularity in China over recent years, multiple EV makers began adding these hybrid models to their lineups to target a broader market.

At a November 2024 tech event, Xpeng unveiled its extended-range technology called the Kunpeng Super Electric System , claiming vehicles equipped with it would achieve a combined range of up to 1,400 kilometers with a pure battery range of 430 kilometers.

This would represent the industry's longest-range extended-range system, eliminating range anxiety for drivers, the company said at the time.

In early August, the EREV variant of the X9 entered the MIIT regulatory catalog, with Xpeng saying at the time that the model would be launched in the fourth quarter.

This sparked optimism about sales prospects, briefly sending Xpeng's Hong Kong-listed shares soaring.

Beyond the X9 EREV and G7 EREV, a hybrid variant of the G6 SUV was also spotted in July.

Xpeng had planned at least five EREV models, including sedans and SUVs, according to a March report by domestic media outlet 36kr.
