China and Japan have recently held intensive consultations and reached a bilateral consensus on the issue of discharging contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.。The Japanese side agreed to establish a long-term international monitoring arrangement covering key aspects of the discharge, and stakeholders, including China, to implement independent sampling monitoring.。On the issue of restrictions on the export of Japanese aquatic products to China raised by the Japanese side, the Chinese side will, after participating in monitoring activities such as independent sampling and based on sufficient scientific evidence, proceed to adjust the relevant measures and gradually resume the import of Japanese aquatic products in line with the regulations.。On August 24, 2023, the Japanese government unilaterally initiated the discharge of nuclear contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. As one of the most important stakeholders, China firmly opposes this irresponsible practice.。
