US prosecutors recommend sentencing SEC hacker Council to two years in prison

Internet reports that U.S. prosecutors recommended to the District Court for the District of Colombia on May 12 to sentence Eric Council Jr. to two years in prison for controlling the SEC's X account through a SIM card swap attack in 2024 and publishing false news that "the SEC has approved a spot Bitcoin ETF." "The case should be punishable by imprisonment within the scope of guidance sentencing," prosecutors said, pointing out that the defendant carried out complex fraud operations by forging identity documents, misleading communication stores and transmitting password reset codes to accomplices. Council has pleaded guilty and will appear in court on May 16 to hear the verdict.
