Trump says there is only 50% chance of US and Europe reaching an agreement
Internet reports that although EU diplomats have recently been optimistic about the imminent trade agreement, Trump said that there is a "only 50% chance" of the United States and Europe reaching an agreement on reducing import tariffs. Trump said: "I think the chances of reaching an agreement are 50 - 50, maybe not yet, but there is still a 50 - 50 chance." Trump added that US and European negotiators were working "closely" together to reach an agreement. Earlier this month, Trump issued a letter saying that if the United States and Europe fail to reach an agreement by August 1, the EU will face punitive measures of imposing a 30% tariff on most goods, in addition to implementing industry-specific additional tariffs. Trump also said he would unilaterally send more letters in the next few days to set a new round of tariffs for other countries.
