Internet reports that last week, Google quietly launched an application that allows users to run a series of open source AI models provided by the artificial intelligence development platform Hugging Face on their mobile phones. The app, called "Google AI Edge Gallery", is currently available on the Android platform and will be launched soon for iOS. Users can find, download and run compatible models through the application, realizing functions such as image generation, problem solving, code writing and editing. These models support offline operation, without the need for an Internet connection, and directly call the processor of the supported phone. AI models running in the cloud are often more powerful than local models, but they also have drawbacks. Some users may be reluctant to send sensitive personal data to a remote data center or want to use the model without Wi-Fi or mobile networks.
