Shangjie, the new automotive brand jointly developed by Huawei and SAIC Motor (SHA: 600104), has launched the pre-sales of its first model, the H5 SUV (sport utility vehicle), becoming the most affordable model under Huawei's HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) business.
The Shangjie H5's pre-sales price range starts at RMB 169,800 ($23,740) to RMB 209,800, which is lower than the previously rumored price range of RMB 180,000 to RMB 230,000 circulating on Chinese social media.
The model will be officially launched on September 23 and will come standard with Huawei's ADS 4 driving assistance system, making it the most affordable model equipped with this system.
Shortly after the pre-sales began, Shangjie announced on Weibo that H5 had received more than 25,000 pre-orders in the first hour.
The Shangjie H5 is based on SAIC's Xingyun platform and developed from the Roewe ES39 model, offering both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) versions.
Its dimensions are 4,780 mm in length, 1,910 mm in width, and 1,664 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,840 mm.
The Shangjie H5 EREV is equipped with a 1.5 L range-extending system, offering a CLTC battery range of up to 230 km. When fully fueled and charged, the combined CLTC range exceeds 1,300 km.
The Shangjie H5 BEV offers two battery pack options with capacities of 64.6 kWh and 80 kWh, providing CLTC ranges of 535 km and 655 km, respectively.
The model is equipped with a 192-channel LiDAR and 4D millimeter-wave radars. Its driver-assistance system supports scenarios including highways, urban roads, and rural roads.
Shangjie is the fifth automotive brand under the HIMA umbrella, with the other four being Aito from Seres Group, Luxeed from Chery, Stelato from BAIC Group, and Maextro from Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC).
The business currently offers eight models for sale: Aito M5, Aito M7, Aito M8, Aito M9, Luxeed S7, Luxeed R7, Stelato S9, and Maextro S800.
Both SAIC and Huawei have high hopes for the Shangjie H5. SAIC president Jia Jianxu said in April that the initial investment for Shangjie amounts to RMB 6 billion, with production utilizing SAIC's most mature production lines.
