IM Motors, SAIC Motor's (SHA: 600104) electric vehicle (EV) unit, has officially launched the updated LS6, poised to intensify competition in the extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) segment.

The EV maker rolled out the updated LS6 on September 10, adding EREV variants to its existing battery electric vehicle (BEV) options.

The updated LS6 is the first model to feature IM Motors' Hengxing EREV system, equipped with CATL's (SHE: 300750) Freevoy Super Hybrid Battery -- larger than those found in many BEVs.

IM Motors unveiled this system on August 1, designed to deliver extended range through a larger battery than conventional EREVs.

Shortly after the updated LS6's launch, IM Motors announced on Weibo that the model secured over 10,000 firm orders within its first 27 minutes.

The vehicle is a mid-to-large SUV (sport utility vehicle) measuring 4,937 mm in length, 1,988 mm in width, and 1,671 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,960 mm.

The updated LS6 offers five BEV variants: four rear-wheel-drive versions and one all-wheel-drive version, priced starting at RMB 197,900 ($27,790), RMB 209,900, RMB 229,900, RMB 229,900, and RMB 269,900 respectively.

This represents a reduction of RMB 12,000, or 5.72 percent, compared to its pre-sales starting price of RMB 209,900.

The updated LS6 BEV rear-wheel-drive variants offer two motor options: 245 kW and 300 kW maximum power, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds or 5.4 seconds respectively.

The all-wheel-drive variant features a front motor with 245 kW and a rear motor with 300 kW, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.48 seconds.

The updated LS6 BEV offers two battery pack options: a 76-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and a 103-kWh ternary lithium battery, delivering CLTC ranges of 650 km, 802 km, and 750 km respectively.

The updated LS6 EREV features a 1.5L engine as its range extender. The rear-wheel-drive model boasts a rear motor with a maximum power output of 230 kW, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds.

The EREV variant offers two battery pack options: a 52-kWh LFP battery and a 66-kWh ternary lithium battery.

Their CLTC battery ranges are 370 km and 450 km, respectively, with combined ranges of 1,400 km and 1,502 km when fully fueled and charged.

The LS6 was initially launched in China on October 12, 2023, with its last update on September 26, 2024, both offering only BEV variants.
