Former SEC Chairman Jay Clayton has been appointed interim prosecutor for the Southern District of New York

On April 23, Cointelegraph reported that former U.S. SEC Chairman Jay Clayton has been appointed interim U.S. prosecutor for the Southern District of New York, replacing Damian Williams, who has played an important role in many high-profile cryptocurrency cases. The appointment was temporary because Democratic Senate Leader Chuck Schumer used a "blue sheet" on April 16 to block a confirmation vote for Clayton. Senators can use the "blue list" to block U.S. prosecutors or district court judicial nominees in their state. Clayton does not require Senate approval to serve as interim U.S. prosecutor for a maximum term of 120 days. Clayton's temporary position will last until around August 20. After that, he needs to be approved by a Senate vote or a temporary extension from a federal court in Manhattan.
