Ethereum block Gas limit increased to 45 million, increasing transaction processing capacity by 25%
Online reports, according to The Block, the Gas limit for the Ethereum blockchain has been raised to 45 million units, an increase of 25% from the 36 million units set in February 2025. This upgrade was activated at block number 22,968,004 and was supported by nearly 50% of the verifiers. This adjustment eliminates the need for hard forks and is designed to improve network transaction throughput and scalability. Developers have also introduced security measures such as EIP-7983, setting the upper limit of Gas usage for a single transaction to 16.77 million units to prevent denial of service attacks. Ethereum's short-term goal is to achieve a 60 million Gas per block cap, and the long-term goal is to reach 150 million Gas units per block through the upcoming Fusaka hard fork.
