Wall Street prophet: The bear market in U.S. stocks may have begun, threatening a repeat of the 1987 flash crash
According to online reports, Ed Yardeni, president of Yardeni Research Inc., known as the prophet of Wall Street and one of the famous big bulls, has recently undergone a subtle change in his views on U.S. stocks. The staunch bull, who had predicted that the S & P 500 would reach 7,000, now said: "We cannot rule out the possibility that a bear market may have quietly begun." He further pointed out that "Trump's Tariff 2.0 could trigger rare flash crashes similar to those in 1962 and 1987." Such crashes usually come quickly and reverse equally quickly, so they could provide investors with opportunities to buy on bargains, especially in stocks that are overvalued but have recently fallen." It is worth noting that Yardeni has raised the probability of a U.S. economic recession and a bear market in the stock market to 35% from 20% in the past, and lowered the probability of a continued bull market in 2025 to 65% from the previous forecast of 80%.
