North Korean hackers posing as developers infiltrate U.S. cryptocurrency companies and steal nearly a million dollars "
Internet reports, Decrypt reported that U.S. federal prosecutors announced on Monday that four North Korean nationals posing as remote developers penetrated an Atlanta blockchain startup and stole nearly US$1 million in cryptocurrency. It is alleged that these agents first operated in the United Arab Emirates and then infiltrated U.S. and Serbian cryptocurrency companies as remote IT workers. After gaining trust, they stole funds twice in 2022, amounting to $175,000 and $740,000 respectively, and used fake identity documents to launder money through currency mixers and exchanges. The U.S. Department of Justice has launched a coordinated operation in 16 states to seize 29 financial accounts, 21 fraudulent websites and about 200 computers supporting North Korea's IT program. Security experts warn that such infiltration tactics have become "standard operating procedure" for North Korea's cyber operations, exploiting loopholes in the encryption industry's telecommuting culture to raise funds for its weapons program.
