Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) has made a regulatory filing for the extended-range version of its X9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle), which will hit the market in the fourth quarter as the company's first hybrid model.
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) today released its latest list of vehicles that will be allowed to go on sale, for public comment, and the extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) version of the Xpeng X9 was included.
The public can submit feedback from August 9 to 15. Being included in this catalog is the final major regulatory step before a vehicle can be sold in China.
The Xpeng X9 has only one page in the catalog, with the product model number NHQ6530SHEVHA and the production location listed as Xpeng's Guangzhou factory.
The 7-seat MPV has dimensions of 5,316 mm in length, 1,988 mm in width, and 1,785 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,160 mm.
It is longer than the all-electric Xpeng X9, which measures 5,293 mm in length, with all other dimensions remaining the same.
The Xpeng X9 EREV has a curb weight of 2,750 kilograms and a maximum speed of 180 kilometers per hour.
The MPV has a 1.5-liter engine from Harbin Dongan Auto Engine as an extended-range engine, with a maximum power output of 110 kW.
It uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries supplied by CALB.
The X9 EREV is Xpeng's first super hybrid model and will be officially launched in the fourth quarter, the company's chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said on Weibo shortly after the filing information was released.
Xpeng has invested more than 1,000 test vehicles in the X9 EREV, with testing lasting more than 800 days, he said.
The testing of this EREV model covered 20 countries, 330 cities, and accumulated over 20 million kilometers of testing mileage, equivalent to circling the Earth's equator 500 times, according to Mr. He.
To ensure the X9 is sufficiently reliable, safe, and intelligent, Xpeng simulated various extreme and harsh scenarios that global users may encounter, he said.
Xpeng's goal is to make the X9 EREV a truly reliable large seven-seat family car, Mr. He said.
A photo he shared showed the number 450 printed on the car body, hinting that the model's battery range may be 450 kilometers.
At a technology day event in November 2024, Xpeng unveiled an extended-range system called the Kunpeng Super Electric System, saying that vehicles equipped with the system will have a combined range of up to 1,400 kilometers and a battery range of up to 430 kilometers.
This will be the longest-range extended-range system in the industry, eliminating range anxiety for drivers, the company said at the time.
The X9 was initially launched in China on January 1, 2024, as Xpeng's first MPV model.
On April 15, the company announced the launch of the 2025 X9 MPV, saying at the time that it planned to launch the MPV model in Europe in the second half of this year.
The 2025 X9 MPV currently available in China offers four variants, with starting prices of RMB 359,800 ($50,100), RMB 379,800, RMB 399,800, and RMB 419,800.
