Additional specifications for Leapmotor's (HKG: 9863) Lafa 5 have been revealed in a regulatory filing, following the hatchback's debut at the IAA Mobility show in Munich, Germany earlier this week.
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) today released its latest catalog of vehicle models awaiting public comment before market approval, with the Lafa 5 included.
Public feedback can be submitted between September 11-17. Inclusion in this catalog represents the final major regulatory step before a model can be sold in China.
The all-electric hatchback spans four pages, with product models designated as FZ7000BEVB05B, FZ7000BEVB05C, FZ7000BEVB05D, and FZ7000BEVB05E. Production will occur at the company's facility in Jinhua, Zhejiang province.
The Lafa 5 measures 4,430 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,520 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,735 mm.
It comes with a single motor producing 160 kW (215 horsepower) peak power. The car supports optional LiDAR sensor.
The five-seat model has a curb weight ranging from 1,665 kg to 1,715 kg and a top speed of 170 km/h.
It utilizes lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries supplied by CATL (SHE: 300750), CALB, Gotion High-tech, and Zenergy. Range specifications for the battery pack are currently unavailable.
Leapmotor unveiled the Lafa 5 at the IAA Mobility show in Munich, Germany on September 8 and commenced pre-sales for the hatchback in China without disclosing a pre-sales price.
Leapmotor said it will officially launch the Lafa 5 in China during the fourth quarter of this year and begin deliveries in the first half of 2026. Global market sales for the model will commence in 2026.
Described as a sporty hatchback tuned by Stellantis' European team, Leapmotor aims for the Lafa 5 to become the "Dream Car" for young people worldwide.
This model positions Leapmotor within the competitive electric hatchback segment, where it will compete against vehicles including the Volkswagen ID.3, SAIC MG4, BYD Dolphin, and Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) Firefly EV.
