Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) has filed for an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variant of its G7 SUV (sport utility vehicle), expanding its wager in the hybrid vehicle sector.
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released its latest catalog of vehicles soon to be approved for sale for public comment today, which includes the Xpeng G7 EREV version.
Public feedback can be submitted between September 11 and 17. Inclusion in the catalog represents the final major regulatory step before a vehicle model can be approved for sale in China.
The G7 EREV has a single page in the catalog, listed under model number NHQ6490SHEVMA with production at Xpeng's Guangzhou plant.
The five-seat SUV measures 4,918 mm in length, 1,925 mm in width, and 1,655 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,890 mm.
These dimensions are longer than the 4,892 mm length of the G7's battery electric vehicle (BEV) variant, while other measurements remain identical.
The G7 EREV has a curb weight of 2,245/2,255 kg and supports a top speed of 202 km/h.
Th SUV is equipped with a 1.5L engine from Harbin Dongan Auto Engine serving as the range extender, delivering a maximum power output of 110 kW.
It utilizes lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries supplied by Eve Energy.
The battery pack has a capacity of 55.8 kWh and weighs 397.5 kg, providing a range of 325 kilometers.
The G7 is Xpeng's new model launched in July and its first vehicle equipped with the in-house developed Turing AI driving chip, delivering up to 2,250 TOPS of computing power.
Its BEV variant starts at RMB 195,800 ($27,490) with a CLTC range of 602 to 702 kilometers.
The G7 EREV is Xpeng's second hybrid model filed after declaring an EREV variant for the X9 MPV last month.
At a November 2024 tech event, Xpeng unveiled its Kunpeng Super Electric System extended-range architecture, claiming vehicles equipped with it would achieve up to 1,400 kilometers of combined range with a pure-electric range of 430 kilometers.
This would represent the industry's longest-range extended-range system, eliminating range anxiety for drivers, the company said at the time.
Beyond the X9 EREV and G7 EREV, a hybrid variant of the G6 SUV was also spotted in July.
Xpeng has planned at least five EREV models, encompassing sedans and SUVs, according to a March report by domestic media outlet 36Kr.
