Data: Bitcoin online transactions fell to a new low since October 2023 "

According to online reports, the seven-day average transaction volume of the Bitcoin network dropped to 317,000 last Friday, a record low since October 2023. Due to low trading activity, some miners began to look for transactions with fees below the core default relay threshold of Bitcoin (1sat/vB). Mononaut pointed out that one of their transactions was submitted to bitcoin miner MARA (formerly Marathon Digital), which publicly operates a non-standard low-fee transaction channel called Slipstream. On June 6, 31 core Bitcoin developers signed an open letter opposing node filtering low-rate or non-standard transactions, emphasizing the essential nature of Bitcoin as a censory-resistant system. Developers point out that forcing users to use private channels such as Slipstream will compromise decentralization. This position was opposed by people such as Jan3 founder Samson Mow, who believed that core developers were removing protection mechanisms for spam transactions.
