The attorneys general of 21 states jointly sued the Trump administration for illegally cutting federal appropriations
The Internet reported that according to the Wall Street Journal, a coalition of attorneys general from 21 states is suing the Trump administration for cutting billions of dollars in federal appropriations. According to a lawsuit filed Tuesday in Massachusetts District Court, attorneys general from Democrat-led states including New York, New Jersey and Illinois said the Trump administration is using provisions in regulations issued by the White House to defend arbitrary terminations of unwanted grants. The alliance seeks to prevent the Trump administration from cutting already issued grants using targeted shifts. New York Attorney General Letitia James said: "These cuts are simply illegal. Congress has fiscal power, and the president cannot cut billions of dollars in basic resources just because he doesn't like the projects he is funding." The White House Office of Management and Budget issued rules that federal agencies can cut appropriations if appropriations "no longer help achieve program goals or agency priorities."
