US man sentenced to 30 years in prison for using cryptocurrency to fund ISIS

On May 9, TheBlock reported that Mohammed Azharuddin Chhipa, a man from Virginia, USA, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for using cryptocurrency to raise funds for the Islamic State (ISIS). The Justice Department said it raised more than US$185,000 through social media between 2019 and 2022, converted the funds into cryptocurrency and transferred them to Turkey, where they eventually flowed to ISIS members in Syria to support jailbreaks, attack logistics and fighter lives.
