Japan's unemployment rate at 2.4% in September, lower than forecast
Ca-ssis/iStock via Getty Images Japan’s unemployment rate stood at 2.4% in September 2024, slightly lower than market consensus and August's reading of 2.5%. It was the lowest level since January, with the number of unemployed declining by 40K to a 20-month low of 1.68M and employment falling by 90K to 67.82M. The Japanese yen traded around 153 per dollar on Tuesday, hovering close to three-month lows and remaining under pressure. The Nikkei 225 (NKY:IND) rose 0.1% on Tuesday, rising for the second straight session, as investors continued to assess the implications of the recent election.
