Financial Times: Silicon Valley tycoon plans to open a bank to support crypto companies

According to online reports, according to Xinhua Agency, the British "Financial Times" reported that a group of billionaires from Silicon Valley in the United States have applied for chartered banking licenses in the United States and are preparing to open a national bank, focusing on supporting start-ups operating in cryptocurrencies and other businesses. After the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank in the United States in March 2023, some start-ups engaged in risky businesses such as cryptocurrency trading had difficulty financing in the United States. The report quoted people familiar with the matter as saying that the new bank is named after the treasure site "Gushan" in "The Lord of the Rings", and its main investors are the major "gold owners" of Silicon Valley in the current Republican administration of the United States, such as Peter Thiel. According to application documents disclosed earlier this week,"Gushan" Bank will be a national bank that provides traditional banking products and virtual currency-related products and services to businesses and individuals. The main target customers are companies participating in the U.S."innovation economy". Companies, especially those in the fields of cryptocurrency, artificial intelligence, defense and manufacturing, as well as individuals who work or invest in these companies, including those with "insufficient credit channels." Banks will also seek to work with non-U.S. companies "interested in entering the U.S. banking system." According to reports,"Lone Mountain" Bank will be headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, and set up an office in New York City, providing only online customer services.
