EU prepares a 100-billion-euro "no deal" plan to deal with 30% US tariffs
Online reports, according to foreign media reports, if negotiations break down and U.S. President Trump fulfills his threat to impose 30% tariffs on most EU exports after August 1, the EU plans to quickly impose a 30% tariff on U.S. products worth approximately 100 billion euros (approximately 117 billion US dollars). A spokesman for the European Commission said on Wednesday that as part of the first wave of countermeasures, the EU will merge the approved tariff list on 21 billion euros of U.S. goods with a previously proposed tariff list on another 72 billion euros of U.S. products into a package. According to people familiar with the matter, U.S. exports, including Boeing aircraft, U.S. -made cars and industrial products such as bourbon, will face tariffs that match the 30% threat Trump has threatened. These people said the tariffs would be ready to take effect next month, but only if negotiations break down and the United States implements its tax measures after an August deadline. A government official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Berlin was even willing to support the launch of the EU's Anti-Coercion Tool (ACI) without an agreement. This tool will only be used if an agreement cannot be reached.
