U.S. senators investigate Facebook parent company Meta's stablecoin plan

Internet reported that U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) sent a letter to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Wednesday asking him to explain the technology giant's plan to re-seek stablecoin payments. "Large technology companies issuing or controlling their own private currencies, such as stablecoins, will threaten competition across the economy, erode financial privacy, and cede control of the U.S. money supply to rogue platforms with a history of abuse of power," the senators wrote in the letter. Warren and Blumenthal warned that Meta, with 3.5 billion daily active users, could consolidate the company's huge economic power and undermine market competition. The two Democratic senators 'investigation followed the Fortune magazine report. Fortune reported that Meta is in discussions with cryptocurrency companies to integrate stablecoins into its platforms, including Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp.
