Czech government faces a vote of no confidence over $45 million Bitcoin scandal

The main Czech opposition party on Thursday called for a vote of no confidence in the government, accusing it of corruption in a $45 million bitcoin payment from a convicted criminal, Internet reported. Alena Schillerova, deputy chair of the right-wing ANO party, said in an article posted to X on Thursday that her party felt "had no choice" but to submit a motion of no confidence, which is scheduled to go to a vote on Tuesday. The Czech Ministry of Justice said on May 28 that it sold nearly 500 bitcoins at auction for 1 billion Czech kronor (US$45 million). The ministry obtained the bitcoins from Tomas Jirikovsky, who ran an online black market and was convicted in 2017 of embezzlement, drug trafficking and weapons violations.
