The Trump administration has asked US semiconductor software design companies to stop selling services to China

Online reports, several people familiar with the matter reportedly said that the U.S. Department of Commerce has asked the so-called Electronic Design Automation Group (including Cadence, Synopsys and Siemens EDA) to stop supplying technology to China. According to people familiar with the matter, the Bureau of Industry and Security, the U.S. Department of Commerce's agency responsible for overseeing export controls, has issued the order to these companies in a letter. It is unclear whether every U.S. EDA company has received the letter. The move marks a major new step taken by the U.S. government to curb China's ability to develop cutting-edge artificial intelligence chips. (Jin Shi)
