U.S. House members ask the Justice Department to investigate Trump's Memecoin dinner

Online reports, according to cointelegraph, 35 members of the U.S. House of Representatives have called on the Justice Department to investigate Donald Trump's May 22 dinner for top memecoin investors, citing concerns about "foreign influence on U.S. policy decisions" and "potential corruption and salary clause violations." In a letter to the Justice Department, lawmakers asked Edward Sullivan, acting director of the Department of Public Integrity, to open an investigation into the dinner to determine whether federal bribery regulations or the foreign remuneration provisions of the U.S. Constitution were violated. According to Bloomberg, most of the people attending the dinner were likely foreign citizens. U.S. law prohibits foreigners from donating to U.S. political activities. Lawmakers said $TRUMP memecoin and its dinner promotion, which promises exclusive access to the president, opened the door for foreign governments to buy influence over the president without disclosing their identities.
