- The starting price for this model is RMB 269,800 ($37,540), and it supports 800V 5C ultra-fast charging.
GAC Group's sub-brand Hyptec has launched the extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) version of the Hyptec HL, becoming another hybrid model with an ultra-large battery pack on the Chinese market.
The SUV (sport utility vehicle) is the first to adopt GAC's Xingyuan extended- range technology, offering four variants with starting prices of RMB 269,800 ($37,540), RMB 279,800, RMB 289,800, and RMB 299,800.
It comes standard with a 60-kWh nickel-cobalt-manganese chemistry battery supplied by CATL, known as the Freevoy Super Hybrid Battery, with a CLTC battery range of 350 kilometers.
This makes the Hyptec HL EREV the latest extended-range model with an ultra-high-capacity battery pack available in the Chinese market following the updated LS6 from IM Motors.
It supports 800V 5C fast charging, enabling a range increase of 210 kilometers after 10 minutes of charging.
With a full tank of fuel and a fully charged battery, the Hyptec HL EREV achieves a CLTC combined range of 1,369 kilometers. Its WLTC fuel consumption when the battery is depleted is 6.7 liters per 100 kilometers.
It comes standard with a 1.5 L engine as a range extender and is available only in rear-wheel drive, with five-seat and six-seat seating options.
The model's electric motor has a maximum power of 250 kW (340 horsepower) and a maximum torque of 430 Nm. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds.
GAC has named its extended-range system "Xingyuan" (literally meaning "star source"), which is equipped with GAC's in-house developed fourth-generation 1.5 DHE engine.
The fuel consumption of the extended-range system in an A-class sedan is 3.3 liters per 100 kilometers, and 5.3 liters for a large SUV, according to GAC.
Hyptec launched the Hyptec HL SUV on April 12 and offers battery electric vehicle (BEV) and EREV variants for the model. Deliveries of the BEV variant began on April 28.
Notably, IM Motors unveiled an extended-range system called "Hengxing" earlier this month, featuring CATL's Freevoy Max battery pack with a capacity of up to 66 kWh, providing a CLTC range of up to 450 kilometers.
In addition to the Hyper HL EREV, GAC is expected to launch more EREV models.
Earlier this month, a regulatory filing catalog released by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology showed that Hyptec had filed for the A8 sedan and the Aion V with an extended-range powertrain.
