CBOE seeks to extend options trading hours to push towards the era of 24-hour trading

According to online reports, Cboe Global Markets, operator of the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), is seeking to extend options trading hours to push the U.S. market further towards "overnight trading." According to the documents, the company proposes to add trading hours outside of regular trading hours (9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. New York time). If approved, CBOE will add an early session from 7:30 to 9:25 a.m. and an after-hours session from 4:00 to 4:15 p.m. U.S. stock exchange operators are trying to extend trading hours to match overseas demand, and CBOE is one of the first derivatives exchanges to propose such adjustments, marking a move towards expanding trading hours in line with stocks. The documents show that the CBOE plans to extend trading hours for only certain stock option categories, depending on trading volume, market value and trading activity. The expansion is limited to specific contracts and will be piloted on a small scale before and after regular transactions.
