Xinwanda expects all-solid-state battery costs to drop to near semi-solid-state levels by 2026

The president of NIO has previously mentioned that the cost of its 150 kilowatt-hour semi-solid-state battery pack is similar to that of the ET5, starting at 29.80 thousand yuan。

Technological advances are expected to reduce the cost of solid-state batteries, and the latest review by Chinese battery manufacturer Xinwanda reveals the extent of the possible decline。

Through technological innovation, Xinwanda expects to be able to reduce the cost of polymer all-solid-state batteries to RMB 2 per watt-hour by 2026 (0.$275), close to the cost of semi-solid-state batteries。A report in today's China Daily。

This is the first time that Xinwanda has publicly disclosed its progress report, detailing the all-solid-state battery.。

NIO (NYSE: NIO) launched the ET7 sedan at the 2020 NIO Day event on January 9, 2021. After announcing the launch of 150 kWh semi-solid-state batteries, solid-state batteries began to receive attention in China。

NIO's semi-solid-state battery pack began trial operation in May this year after repeated delays, and officially began daily rental operations in June.。

The cells of the semi-solid battery come from the local start-up company Beijing Weishi New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., with an energy density of 360 Wh / kg。

Due to the new technology, the current cost of the 150 kWh battery pack is very high. Qin Lihong, co-founder and president of Weilai, mentioned in February 2023 that the cost of the battery pack is roughly the same as that of ET5。

The ET5 sedan is currently the cheapest model in Weilai, with a starting price of 29.80,000 yuan。

If Xinwanda's prediction comes true, it means that by 2026, the cost of an all-solid-state battery with a capacity of 150kWh is expected to drop to about 300,000 yuan.。

China Daily quoted Xu Zhongling, vice president of research and development at Xinwanda, as saying that Xinwanda has developed all-solid-state batteries with a capacity of up to 20Ah and an energy density of more than 400Wh / kg。< / p >

Xinwanda said that the company is building an all-solid-state battery production line and is expected to achieve mass production in 2026, with a production capacity of up to 1GWh.。

Xinwanda also further increased the energy density of the solid-state battery to 500 Wh / kg by using lithium metal in the negative electrode, and provided laboratory prototype samples, Xu said。

Xinwanda expects to complete laboratory samples of all-solid-state batteries with energy densities exceeding 700Wh / kg by 2027。
