xAI faces legal action over data center air pollution
Online reports that Musk's artificial intelligence company xAI faces legal action for its use of gas turbines at The Colossus data center in Memphis. The Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC) sent xAI a 60-day notice of intent to sue on behalf of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), accusing it of violating the Clean Air Act. SELC noted that xAI has installed and operated at least 35 gas turbines in the past year, but has not obtained the necessary pre-construction or operating air permits. These devices may emit more than 2000 tons of nitrogen oxides (NOx) every year, seriously affecting local air quality.
