The United States refuses to provide Japan with reciprocal tariff exemptions."

Online reported that on Monday, people familiar with the matter revealed that the United States rejected Japan's request for a comprehensive exemption from 10% of reciprocal tariffs and tariffs on specific countries in recent negotiations. Sources said that U.S. officials, including U.S. Treasury Secretary Basent, said during talks with Japan's chief negotiator Ryoshima Akasawa in Washington last week that the Trump administration intended to cut only 14% of country-specific tariffs, which were suspended until early July. During the second round of negotiations, the United States emphasized that depending on the progress of the negotiations, it would only consider extending the 90-day suspension or reducing the 14% tariff. Tokyo has been seeking the United States to fully eliminate reciprocal tariffs, a 25% automobile tariff and a 25% steel and aluminum tariff. Washington has said it will not negotiate a 10% global basic tariff or tariffs on automobiles and steel products. (Jin Shi)
