Swedish Justice Minister urges increased efforts to seize criminal crypto assets "
Internet reports that Swedish Justice Minister Gunnar Strommer called on the police, tax authorities and executive boards to strengthen seizure of criminal proceeds, including cryptocurrencies. Under the strict confiscation law passed last year, authorities can seize suspicious assets even if a specific crime cannot be proved. About US$8.4 million in property has been seized. Some lawmakers have proposed using confiscated bitcoins to build national strategic reserves, following the example of the United States and other countries. Previous reports pointed out that a large number of criminals in Sweden use cryptocurrency to launder money, and law enforcement agencies have recommended expanding law enforcement actions on crypto platforms.
