Leapmotor (HKG: 9863) has shared more images of its new Lafa 5 model, following a mention of the hatchback earlier today.
Cao Li, vice president of the new energy vehicle (NEV) maker, posted three images on Weibo today, revealing details of the Lafa 5's side profile and rear.
The model features LiDAR mounted on its roof, while its rear design indicates it's a hatchback similar to BYD's (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) Seagull.
The Seagull ranks among BYD's best-selling models, with 329,410 units sold from January to July, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
The Lafa 5 is a "gift" Leapmotor is presenting to young people worldwide on its 10th anniversary, Cao wrote on Weibo, hinting the model will launch in both Chinese and overseas markets.
"We want to build a Dream Car for young people who refuse to settle, conform, or be ordinary!" he said.
"Global personalized strategy new product Lafa 5, see you in Munich on September 8," Cao wrote.
Earlier today, Leapmotor first mentioned the Lafa 5 while announcing its August delivery figures, stating the model will debut at the Munich auto show on September 8.
The Lafa 5 will position Leapmotor within the competitive electric hatchback market, competing against models including the Volkswagen ID.3, SAIC MG4, BYD Seagull, and Nio Inc's (NYSE: NIO) Firefly EV.
Leapmotor would have four series -- A, B, C, and D -- over the next three years, covering 13 to 14 models priced between RMB 60,000 ($8,410) and RMB 300,000, its founder, chairman, and CEO Zhu Jiangming said last December.
Leapmotor's current lineup in China includes the T03, B10, B01, C01, C10, C11, and C16.
The T03, B01, and B10 are offered only as battery electric vehicles (BEVs), while the other models also feature extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants.
Leapmotor delivered 57,066 vehicles in August, marking its fourth consecutive month of record-high deliveries, according to data released today.
This is the second time Leapmotor has surpassed the 50,000-unit monthly delivery milestone, representing an 88.31 percent year-on-year increase and a 13.84 percent rise from July.
