Former Bithumb CEO Lee Sang-joon was released on bail after six months in detention on conviction

Internet reports, Digital Asset reports that Lee Sang-joon, former CEO of South Korean crypto exchange Bithumb, was released on bail after six months in detention on conviction. Lee Sang-joon was sentenced to two years in prison in the first instance for allegedly accepting hundreds of millions of won in bribes to launch two cryptocurrencies on Bithumb. He has been released since being detained in December 2024. Bail conditions include restrictions on changes of residence, non-departure from the country without court approval, payment of a deposit of 50 million won (US$36,500) and a ban on contacting the person involved.
