U.S. CFTC Democratic Commissioner Kristin Johnson announced he will leave office at the end of the year

Internet reported that Kristin Johnson, a Democratic member of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), announced that he would leave office at the end of the year to complete his term. This is the fourth and last member of the agency to announce his resignation in recent days after Christy Goldsmith Romero, Caroline Pham and Summer Mersinger, indicating that the CFTC leadership will face a major adjustment. Commissioner Johnson has previously been actively concerned about the encryption field. He once advocated that the CFTC immediately formulate asset custody regulations, expressed concerns about DeFi and artificial intelligence, and called for the development of digital asset rules through industry dialogue. Existing vacancies in the CFTC must be appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate, and no more than three members of the same party must be appointed. Currently, a confirmation hearing for President-designate Brian Quintenz has not been scheduled.
