Hassett: Whether Trump fires Powell, the Fed's answer to headquarters renovation is the key
According to online reports, White House economic adviser Hassett said that if there is evidence to support it, U.S. President Trump has the right to fire Federal Reserve Chairman Powell, adding that the Federal Reserve "bears many responsibilities" for the excessive renovation costs of its Washington headquarters. Hassett said any decision by Trump to try to fire Powell will largely depend on the Fed's answer to questions about headquarters renovations. White House Budget Office Director Walter last week criticized Powell for "lying" about the renovation of the Federal Reserve Building. Trump has repeatedly said Powell should resign because he did not cut interest rates. (Jin Shi)
