OpenAI buys artificial intelligence company IO from former Apple executives for $6.5 billion
Online reports that OpenAI is buying the startup io co-founded by Jony Ive in a nearly $6.5 billion all-stock deal to gain a division specializing in developing artificial intelligence-driven devices and ensure that Ive and other former Apple designers provide services to it. The acquisition will bring approximately 55 hardware engineers, software developers and manufacturing experts to OpenAI, who will build a range of devices, the first of which is expected to be available in 2026.
