Bitcoin ATM operator Bitcoin Depot: Law enforcement officers suspected of breaking the law by using violent means to withdraw money from ATMs

Internet reports, Decrypt reported that last week, Texas police used power tools to retrieve $32,000 from Bitcoin Depot's Bitcoin ATM. Chris Ryan, chief legal officer of Bitcoin Depot, a Bitcoin ATM operator, said that U.S. law enforcement officers 'use of violent means to retrieve cash from Bitcoin ATMs is an act of ultra vires and may violate the law. Scott Buchanan, its chief operating officer, said the machine had to be completely replaced because law enforcement officers cut open the "entity" of the self-service terminal. An FBI report found that Americans lost at least $247 million through cryptocurrency self-service terminals in 2024, a 31% increase from 2023. Earlier, it was reported that the Sheriff of Jasper County, Texas, in the United States, used cutting tools to forcibly dismantle a Bitcoin ATM machine at local time in an attempt to recover the $25,000 that local residents had been defrauded.
