Trump says the maximum rate of new tariffs will reach 70% starting from August 1."
Internet reports that on July 4 local time, U.S. President Trump said that the U.S. government would start writing to trading partners starting from that day to set new unilateral tariff rates. Trump said that "nine times out of ten" the new tariffs will take effect on August 1. Trump said that starting from the 4th, the United States will send letters to multiple countries, with "10 or 12 letters" expected to be sent that day, and more letters will be sent in the next few days. Trump said he expected all of these letters to be delivered by the 9th. Previously, Trump set July 9 as the deadline for tariff negotiations. Regarding the new tariffs to be set, Trump said,"Tariff rates may range from 60%, 70% to 10%, 20%." Trump said,"We have completed the final text (of the letter), which will basically explain what tariffs these countries will pay." CNN reported that it was unclear which countries would receive the letters, but Trump had named and "criticized" certain trading partners, including the European Union and Japan, for being too tough in the negotiations. Trump threatened this week to send a letter to "spoiled" Japan, setting its tariff rate at as high as 35%. (CCTV News)
