GWM posts 22% sales growth in Aug as overseas sales hit record high

Great Wall Motor (GWM) achieved its highest monthly sales this year, driven by robust performance in new energy vehicles (NEVs) and overseas sales.

The Chinese automaker sold 115,558 vehicles in August -- its highest since January -- marking a 22.33 percent year-on-year increase and a 10.72 percent rise from July, according to a Hong Kong Stock Exchange announcement yesterday.

Overseas sales reached a record 45,166 units, up 11.65 percent year-on-year and up 9.93 percent month-on-month, accounting for 39.09 percent of total monthly sales.

GWM's NEV sales in August totaled 37,495 units, rising 50.92 percent year-on-year and up 8.39 percent month-on-month.

NEV sales hit a new high this year, accounting for 32.45 percent of GWM's monthly sales.

Haval remained GWM's primary sales driver, with the sub-brand selling 68,912 units in August -- a 22.69 percent year-on-year increase and 22.57 percent rise from July -- contributing 59.63 percent of GWM's monthly sales.

The Tank brand sold 20,022 units in August, marking its fourth consecutive month exceeding 20,000 units. This represents a 22.46 percent year-on-year increase and is flat compared to July's 20,020 units. The brand contributed 17.33 percent to GWM's monthly sales in August.

The premium Wey brand sold 8,028 units in August, surging 167.51 percent year-on-year but declining 20.08 percent month-on-month.

From January to August, GWM sold 789,719 vehicles, up 5.94 percent year-on-year.

Overseas sales reached 283,912 units in the first eight months, up 1.35 percent year-on-year, accounting for 35.95 percent of GWM's total sales during this period.

The Haval brand sold 446,560 units from January to August, a 9.22 percent year-on-year increase, contributing 56.55 percent to GWM's sales during this period.

The Tank brand sold 143,702 vehicles during the same period, down 4.88 percent year-on-year, accounting for 18.20 percent of GWM's total sales.
