US media: US tariff negotiations plan to adopt a new framework for preliminary consultations with 18 countries in stages

According to online reports, according to the Wall Street Journal, in order to simplify negotiations on reciprocal tariffs, US negotiators plan to use a new framework developed by the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR), which lists broad categories of negotiations, such as tariffs and quotas, non-tariff trade barriers, digital trade, product origin principle, economic security and other business issues. In these categories, U.S. officials will make specific requirements for individual countries, but people familiar with the matter stressed that the document could also be adjusted at any time. People familiar with the matter said that the United States 'initial plan is to alternate negotiations with its 18 major trading partners over the next two months, and the initial plan is to alternate negotiations with six countries per week for three weeks (six countries in the first week, six more countries in the second week, and six more countries in the third week) until the July 8 deadline expires. If U.S. President Trump does not extend his own 90-day moratorium, countries that cannot reach an agreement will begin to face reciprocal tariffs. (Jin Shi)
