Zhejiang cracked a digital currency extortion case involving more than 330,000 yuan
According to online reports, according to Xinhua Agency, the People's Court of Uptown, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province recently issued a first-instance judgment on a digital currency extortion case. Four former network security engineers used Trojan viruses to invade corporate server systems and extort victim companies to pay digital currency as "ransom," involving more than 330,000 yuan. The court's ruling showed that criminal gangs carried out extortion against three companies in Hangzhou at the end of 2023. Among them, the victim company's systems, including a medical institution, were encrypted and forced to purchase digital currency through a third party to pay ransom. The four defendants were sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment ranging from three years to seven years and six months.
