Silk Road founder received US$31 million in Bitcoin donation suspected to be related to the Alphabay dark network market."
Online reports, according to Cointelegraph, blockchain analysis company Chainalysis reported that the 300 bitcoins (worth approximately US$31 million) donations received by Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht earlier this month were suspected to have come from Alphabay-related wallets in the dark web market. Analysis shows that donors use a variety of hybrid services to hide traces of transactions, and that funds may have originated from early Alphabay suppliers. Blockchain detective ZachXBT confirmed that the funds did not come from Silk Road, but that the transaction pattern suggested that illegal sources could be involved. Alphabay, the successor to Silk Road, operated from 2014 to 2017 before being shut down during Operation Bayonet. It is worth noting that Ulbricht received a comprehensive pardon from President Trump in January this year after serving a 12-year sentence for running Silk Road.
