U.S. tariff revenue surged to $87.2 billion in first half

According to online reports, U.S. government data showed that in the first half of this year, U.S. tariff revenue soared to US$87.2 billion. Since the Trump administration implemented so-called reciprocal tariffs in April this year, tariff revenue has risen rapidly. Tariff revenue in June alone reached US$26.6 billion, four times the usual level. According to analysis by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, as of the end of June, the 10% benchmark tariff had generated more than US$17.7 billion in revenue, while specific tariffs on the automotive industry had also contributed more than US$10.7 billion. Estimates from the Yale University Budget Laboratory show that as of Sunday, the overall average effective tariff rate in the United States had reached 20.6%, the highest level since 1910. At the same time, the proportion of tariffs in total U.S. imports is also rising rapidly. A new round of reciprocal tariffs, scheduled to take effect on August 1, is expected to push this number up further.
