US senators propose sanctions against El Salvador President Bukele on charges of Bitcoin abuse and human rights violations

Internet reports that U.S. Democratic senators introduced the Salvador Accountability Act (S.2058), calling for sanctions against El Salvador President Nayib Bukele and members of his government. The bill, introduced by Senators Chris Van Hollen, Tim Kaine and Alex Padilla, accuses the Salvadoran government of violating international human rights standards and abusing Bitcoin. The bill requires the Trump administration to freeze assets in the United States, refuse visas and suspend financial aid. In addition, the U.S. Secretary of State is required to submit a detailed report on the use of cryptocurrencies in El Salvador within 90 days of the passage of the bill, including information such as the amount of bitcoins purchased by public funds, the exchanges used, and relevant wallet addresses. In response, President Bukele responded on social media, implying that U.S. lawmakers 'attempts to impose sanctions were impure. It is worth noting that Bukele and President Trump had a good relationship before. They were invited to visit the White House in April this year. Two months later, Trump advisers also met with him to discuss cryptocurrency cooperation.
