Dutch International Bank: Dollar could fall further if Powell hints at interest rate cuts
Internet reports that Dutch International Bank analyst Francesco Pesole said in a report that if Federal Reserve Chairman Powell hints at further interest rate cuts when testifying to Congress at 22 o'clock tonight, the dollar may fall further. He said Powell hinted that the risk of a rate cut had increased after Fed governors Waller and Bowman supported a rate cut as early as July. Markets may view any change in Powell's caution on interest rate cuts as a sign that Trump's pressure to cut rates has "broken through the Fed's independence shield." This could lead to a significant depreciation of the dollar.
