U.S. Treasury accepts donations from Venmo and PayPal to help repay huge national debt

According to online reports, according to US media reports, if Americans want to, they can now donate to the Treasury Department through Venmo and PayPal to repay the national debt. In the past 29 years, Americans have donated a total of $67.3 million, but they have had little material impact on the current $36.7 trillion national debt. An NPR reporter posted a screenshot on X on Wednesday showing pages on the Treasury Department's website where donations to treasury bonds can be made through Venmo and PayPal. According to Axios, Venmo's single donation is capped at $999,999.99. Even with this amount, it would have to be donated every 18 seconds to keep up with the growth of national debt. It is unclear when Venmo and PayPal donation options will be added to the website.
