HKEX (00388.HK) CEO Bonnie Chan revealed that more than 160 companies are currently waiting to list in Hong Kong, with nearly 20 of them aiming to raise over USD1 billion, while over 40 new IPO applications were received last month alone.

Chan also mentioned that during her recent exchanges with executives from other regional exchanges, she noticed that there was envy towards Hong Kong's rich pipeline resources, probably due to the attractive themes in Hong Kong's market and investors seeking reallocation opportunities.

While Chan said that she is confident that IPO activities will continue to flourish, what satisfied her even more was seeing leading companies listing in Hong Kong and overseas investors returning to Hong Kong IPOs, with some H-share IPOs showing a premium over A-shares already listed in mainland China.

Regarding HKEX's expansion into overseas markets in recent years, Chan noted that it takes time to operate overseas offices, and the Singapore office is beginning to yield results after years of effort. For instance, HK Acquisition, a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC), acquired SYNAGISTICS (02562.HK) last year, and the local biotech company MIRXES-B (02629.HK) listed in Hong Kong this May.
