Goldman Sachs chief economist: Trump will not restart "reciprocal tariffs" on July 9
According to online reports, Goldman Sachs chief economist Jan Hatzius predicted that Trump will not restart "reciprocal tariffs" on July 9. At an event at the conservative think tank the American Enterprise Institute, Hatzus suggested that the White House was more likely to extend negotiations with trading partners rather than strictly enforcing the July 9 deadline. Hatzus's team estimates that the overall tariff rate in the United States has increased by about 10 percentage points this year. "We expect another 4 to 5 percentage points increase due to targeted tariffs of 25% in semiconductors, communications equipment, pharmaceuticals, copper and other industries. This is a major additional tax increase that we believe will still be implemented." (Jin Shi)
