Nio Inc's (NYSE: NIO) premium compact electric vehicle (EV) brand Firefly has commenced its first deliveries in Europe, marking the sub-brand's official rollout in overseas markets.
Firefly announced the progress today, stating that its first deliveries in Europe took place on August 14 in Norway and the Netherlands.
This marks the start of global expansion for the small car brand designed for global users, and also marks a new phase in Nio's multi-brand strategy, it said.
Norway's first Firefly user said she mainly drives in urban areas, and this compact and easy-to-drive model is just right for her.
The user said that Firefly meets all her needs, and safety is of paramount importance to her, which Firefly delivers.
Nio officially launched the Firefly brand on December 21, 2024, at Nio Day 2024 to challenge Mini and Smart. The first model bearing the same name as the brand was launched in China on April 19.
Firefly began deliveries in China on April 29 and reached the milestone of 10,000 deliveries on July 26.
This year, Firefly has accelerated its global market expansion through a national distributor model, with plans to enter six countries including Belgium, Denmark, Austria, Hungary, Portugal, and Greece, the brand said today, adding that it will expand to more regions by the end of the year.
In the future, Firefly will continue to adopt flexible strategies in global markets to achieve efficient market penetration, it said.
By the end of this year, Firefly will enter about 20 overseas markets, and the right-hand drive version will be ready by October at the latest, said Qin Lihong, co-founder and president of Nio, in response to a question from CnEVPost at a media roundtable in Shanghai on April 22, ahead of the 2025 Shanghai auto show.
Firefly emphasizes driving flexibility in urban areas and safety.
Last month, Firefly achieved a score of G or higher in all four categories of China's latest C-IASI (China Insurance Automotive Safety Index) evaluation, becoming the safest small car in the evaluation.
Firefly delivered 2,366 vehicles in July, bringing the total number of vehicles delivered in China since the start of deliveries in late April to 10,209, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
